This medicine is used to treat depression.
Contraindications
Do not take the Effexor depression medication
or any similar prescription medications if you
are allergic to any ingredient in this depression
medicine or if you are taking a monoamine oxidase
inhibitor (MAOI).
How to Use Effexor
How much medicine you take and how often you take
it depends on many factors, including the condition
being treated and the age and weight of the patient.

Swallow the Effexor capsules whole. Do not chew,
crush, divide, or place the capsule in water before
taking. Effexor may lessen your ability to judge,
think, or handle complex motor skills. Use caution
when driving or performing other tasks requiring
alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity.
Dizziness or lightheadedness can occur when rising
from a seated or lying position. If this occurs,
sit or lie down and avoid sudden changes in posture.
Notify your doctor if a rash, hives or any sign
of allergy develops. Avoid alcohol while taking
this medicine. Have your blood pressure checked
regularly. Do not stop taking Effexor suddenly.
The stopping of using this medicine should be
done gradually.
At least 14 days should pass between stopping
the use of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor and the
starting of this medicine. In addition, at least
7 days should pass after stopping this medicine
before starting a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless
advised to do so by your doctor or health care
provider. Patients with previous medical conditions
should talk with their health care provider before
taking this medicine. Do not take any other over-the-counter
or prescription medicines without talking with
your doctor.
